Presenting consciously sourced farm cuisine that utilizes modern techniques, whole-animal preparations, and house baked goods, Storefront Company delivers a refined yet approachable neighborhood dining experience in Chicago’s Wicker Park-Bucktown locale. Award-winning Chef/Partner Bryan Moscatello oversees the Contemporary American Menu and creative “Kitchen Cocktails,” which both rotate frequently to incorporate only the most pristine seasonal ingredients. The restaurant’s innovative take on modern cuisine earned Storefront Company a coveted Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand designation for the 2013 guidebook.
Channeling the artful vibe of the area, Storefront Company’s design features a smart mix of modern and classic furnishings with the turn-of-the-century architecture of the famous Flat Iron Building on North Avenue, in which it is located. Guests can enjoy their meal in the restaurant’s intimate dining room, or partake in an interactive tasting experience at chef Moscatello's Kitchen Counter. Wrapping around the perimeter of the exposed main kitchen, the Kitchen Counter is able to accommodate up to 15 guests and encompasses the traditional feel of a chef’s table dinner with a modern approach to both cuisine and structure. “Storefront Company fills a fine-dining niche for Wicker Park by offering great food, drinks, and service in a hip environment, any night of the week,” says Operating Partner Steve Harris, who also operates the nearby Debonair Social Club and has joined a team of professionals to launch this neighborhood restaurant that rivals most downtown haunts. Harris, along with his Storefront and Debonair Partner Claudia Gassel, Chef Bryan Moscatello, and Wine Director John Dalesandro, are committed to taking an active role in creating unique and memorable dining experiences.
WINE AND BAR
Wine Director John Dalesandro manages a wine list and bar menu designed to augment Storefront Company’s thoughtful cuisine. He has handpicked 80 bottles and 16 by-the-glass selections from boutique winemakers across the globe, including 2010 Comte LaFond Grand Cuvee Sancerre (France), 2009 Henschke Shiraz Blen Barossa Valley (Australia) , and a 2010 Davis Family 'soul patch' Syrah Russian River (California). He has also identified food-friendly craft and import beers, such as Pinkus Pilsner (Munster Germany) and Ayinger Hefe Weizen (Aying Germany). “The wine and beer offerings are all about quality and a balanced representation of the world,” says Dalesandro. “We wanted to first and foremost keep Chef Bryan’s food in mind when pairing all of our beverages."
DESIGN AND DÉCOR
The restaurant is nestled among the boutique shopping and retail hot spots that dot the North Avenue and Damen Avenue corridor in Wicker Park, which provided the inspiration for the restaurant’s name. Storefront Company offers a comfortable yet artistically inspired dining space in 2,500 square feet. “we wanted the design to embody the soul of Wicker Park,” says Harris, who personally designed the space with the team. “I love this neighborhood because it was founded by artists and still draws the open-minded and diverse" adds Gassel.
Anchoring the 65-seat main dining room, a modern art installation by local muralist Gary Weidner serves as a focal point. The 34- by 13-foot mixed-media collage of dried flowers found in a Chicago snowscape is integrated into the 100-year-old wall.
Storefront’s design is a smart mix of contemporary boutique-inspired styling, commissioned art, clever custom design elements, and dramatic lighting accenting the modern finishes and classic architecture. The unique ‘square’ footprint and clean décor exemplify refinement in a hip and casual atmosphere.
